Crater highlands

The Crater Highlands is an area in Tanzania that is part of the Rift Valley. The landscape is dominated by extinct volcanoes. There's one active volcano, Ol Doinyo Langai. The Masaai people (new window) live here. We did a three day trek, ending near the Ol Doinyo Lengai. Our gear was carried by donkeys. These donkeys carried our tents, our rucksacks, the group tent, the chairs, food, water and even a toilet.

Later we visited the Songay people. These are hunter people, in contrary to the Masaai who are herdsmen.
