Dead Cities - Serjilla (سيرجيلا)

Serjilla looks like a city that has been left not so long ago. That makes this dead city the most special one of the cities I visited. I think most travel guides, like for instance Lonely Planet, exaggerate the eerie atmosphere a little bit. Perhaps the pouring rain and all the mud on the day I visited the city, made it difficult for me to imagine the city being inhabited and maybe things are different if you visit the site on a dry and sunny day. Many buildings in what looks like the old city centre are still standing though in a surprisingly well preserved state and you can walk through the old streets. Most buildings in the outskirts of the city are badly damaged. Here (new window) you can find a Wikipedia page on Serjilla.
