Deir Samaan (دير سمعان)
Deir Samaan (Monastry of Simeon) is the ruined remains of a village that grew during the 5th century AD. You can find the remains of monastries, churches and buildings, all built to accomodate the pilgrims that visited the basilicas devoted to St. Simeon Stylites. Remains of the buildings are scattered on an enormous area. People use buildings to house livestock. Children play on the ruins. You need many hours and must walk a lot to see everything. Some children can get quite annoying when you walk around the site. Don't be surprised if they start to throw stones. I've spoken to tourists who have had this not-so-nice experience.
